Vedanta to Invest ₹1 Lakh Crore in Rajasthan, Creating Over 2 Lakh Jobs Across Zinc, Oil, and Renewable Energy Sectors

Vedanta has announced plans to invest ₹1 lakh crore in Rajasthan, focusing on oil and gas, zinc production, and renewable energy projects. This major investment is expected to generate more than 2 lakh jobs in the state, though the company has not provided a specific timeline for the investment.

Of the total, ₹30,000 crore will go towards increasing Hindustan Zinc’s production to 2 million tonnes of zinc and 2,000 tonnes of silver per year. Hindustan Zinc, the country’s largest zinc and silver producer, is also planning to build a fertilizer plant with a capacity of 1 million tonnes.

Additionally, Cairn Oil and Gas, another Vedanta subsidiary, will invest ₹35,000 crore to boost its oil and gas output, while Serentica Renewables will invest ₹50,000 crore to develop 10,000 MW of renewable energy capacity.

Chairman Anil Agarwal emphasized Rajasthan’s abundance of hydrocarbons and critical minerals like zinc, lead, silver, gold, copper, and more. Vedanta’s subsidiaries Hindustan Zinc and Cairn Oil and Gas will lead exploration and establish new manufacturing plants, smelters, and shale gas recovery projects.

In a separate announcement, Vedanta also plans to invest ₹1 lakh crore in Odisha to build a 6-million-tonne alumina refinery and a 3-million-tonne aluminium plant. Vedanta is the largest aluminium producer in India, already operating major facilities in the state.
