JSW Energy Seals Deal to Supply 1,200 MW Solar-Wind Power to Maharashtra Discom, Aiming for Carbon Neutrality by 2050

On Friday, JSW Energy announced that two of its subsidiaries have signed agreements to supply 1,200 MW of power to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL). JSW Renew Energy Six Ltd and JSW Renew Energy Thirty Ltd, both subsidiaries of JSW Energy, have finalized power purchase agreements (PPAs) with MSEDCL for solar-wind hybrid power projects connected to the state transmission utility (STU), according to a company statement.

The agreements cover two hybrid projects, each with a capacity of 600 MW, totalling 1,200 MW.

The company received the letters of award for these projects on August 29, 2024, and September 10, 2024.

JSW Energy expects to complete these projects within 24 months. The PPAs are set for 25 years, with a fixed tariff of ₹3.60 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

At present, JSW Energy has a project pipeline of 8.3 GW, with agreements in place for 4.4 GW of capacity.

The company’s total locked-in generation capacity is 18.2 GW, which includes 7.7 GW of operational projects and 2.1 GW under construction across wind, thermal, and hydro. It also has 8.3 GW of renewable energy projects and 16.2 GWh of energy storage capacity, including battery energy storage systems and hydro pumped storage projects. JSW Energy aims to reach 20 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030.

The company is also targeting carbon neutrality by 2050.
