Akasa Air Faces ₹30 Lakh Fine from DGCA for Multiple Regulatory Breaches

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of ₹30 lakh on Akasa Air, which is operated by SNV Aviation Pvt. Ltd., for several regulatory violations. This penalty comes after a spot inspection conducted on May 20, 2024, which revealed multiple breaches related to pilot training and operational procedures, according to a copy of the order reviewed by ET.

The violations identified include conducting practical training for technical instructors and pilots without the necessary ATRP (Approval for Training and Resource Personnel) approvals. Additionally, the airline was found to have exceeded the allowed training hours and appointed examiners who were not qualified for CAT II/III operations. The DGCA stated that despite being given multiple opportunities to rectify these issues, Akasa Air’s responses were deemed unsatisfactory.

After a show-cause notice was issued on August 29, 2024, the DGCA determined that the explanations provided by the airline were inadequate, leading to the imposition of the penalty under Rule 162 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937.

In response, Akasa Air acknowledged receipt of the DGCA’s order dated October 17, 2024. The airline stated that it is working closely with the regulator on this matter, emphasizing that safety is its top priority and that it is committed to adhering to the highest global safety standards.

Akasa Air has 30 days to either appeal the penalty or pay the fine. This is not the first time the airline has faced fines, as it was previously penalized in August for multiple violations.
