Ex-FTX Co-CEO Ryan Salame Updates LinkedIn with Jail Time Details as He Begins 7.5-Year Sentence

Ryan Salame, the 31-year-old former co-CEO of the collapsed cryptocurrency exchange FTX, updated his LinkedIn profile just before starting his seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence on October 11. In a move that many found humorous, Salame changed his job and experience sections on LinkedIn to reflect his upcoming time in jail.

Why Is He Going to Prison?

Salame was a top executive at FTX and a close associate of the company’s founder, Sam Bankman-Fried. He received the prison sentence for crimes committed while working at FTX, including breaking campaign-finance laws, according to Bloomberg.

Salame is set to begin his sentence at a federal prison in Cumberland, Maryland. He was initially supposed to turn himself in on August 29 but got a delay after being injured by a dog and needing surgery.

Judge Lewis Kaplan described Salame’s actions as “astonishing,” noting that Salame expressed frustration at how harshly he was being treated rather than showing remorse for his crimes.

Salame pleaded guilty to avoiding US banking laws and participating in a scheme to funnel donations through fake donors for Bankman-Fried. In an October 7 interview, Salame claimed that he only pleaded guilty to protect his wife, Michelle Bond, a crypto lobbyist. He accused prosecutors of not keeping their promise to stop investigating Bond after his plea.

However, the US Attorney’s Office in Manhattan rejected these claims, calling Salame’s attempt to take back his statements “shameless.” Earlier, Salame had also accused the US Justice Department of corruption and questioned the credibility of former colleagues who helped convict Bankman-Fried.
