IndiGo to Stand with Air India in Honoring Ratan Tata’s Aviation Legacy, Says Rahul Bhatia

In a heartfelt tribute to the late Ratan Tata, Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director of InterGlobe Enterprises, which is the parent company of IndiGo, said the airline will support Air India in helping secure India’s place at the center of global aviation. He expressed that Ratan Tata’s passion for aviation is well known and was pleased to see Air India return to where it belongs, under Tata’s leadership.

Bhatia said, “While I am much too small a man to say this, in tribute to Mr. Tata’s love for flight and his vision for the future of Indian Aviation, IndiGo will, ever so modestly, walk alongside Air India to secure India’s rightful seat at the center stage of global aviation.”

Bhatia shared a personal memory of his interactions with Ratan Tata, dating back to 1985, when he had returned from college. They had discussions on a possible collaboration involving the Tata Group, Nortel (then known as Northern Telecom), and InterGlobe, aimed at manufacturing digital telephone switches. Although the project did not materialize, Bhatia said that Tata’s humility and openness left a lasting impression on him.

He added that during this difficult time, his thoughts are with the Tata family and the employees of the Tata Group.
