Sundar Pichai Remembers Ratan Tata: A Leader Who Truly Cared About India’s Future

Google CEO Sundar Pichai paid tribute to Ratan Tata on Wednesday, highlighting how much Tata cared about making India a better place. Tata passed away at 86 in Mumbai.

Pichai recalled his last meeting with Tata, where they discussed Waymo, Google’s self-driving car project. Pichai described Tata’s vision as inspiring and said, “He leaves behind an incredible business and philanthropic legacy and played a key role in shaping modern business leadership in India.”

Pichai added, “He truly cared about making India better. My deepest condolences to his family. Rest in peace, Shri Ratan Tata Ji.”

State Funeral and Tributes

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that Tata would be given a state funeral. His body will be placed at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai from 10 AM to 4 PM on Thursday for the public to pay their respects.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Tata a “visionary business leader” and a “compassionate human being.”

Billionaire Gautam Adani also expressed his grief, stating, “India lost a giant. Ratan Tata wasn’t just a business leader, he represented the spirit of India with integrity and compassion. Legends like him never fade. Om Shanti.”

Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra and Mahindra, said Tata’s life and work were critical in placing India on the path to economic progress. “His mentorship and guidance would have been invaluable as we stand on the brink of a major leap forward,” he said.
