Mumbai’s New Aqua Metro Line Sees 20,482 Passengers on Its Second Day

On the second day of its full operation, 20,482 passengers traveled on the newly-opened underground corridor of Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, by 9 pm. This line, which stretches 12.69 kilometers from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Aarey Colony, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.

On its first day, the Aqua Line saw 18,015 passengers from 11 am to 10:30 pm. However, this ridership is significantly lower than the estimated 4 lakh daily commutes that the Mumbai Metro Line 3 was projected to handle.

The Aqua Line connects key areas like BKC, the domestic and international terminals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, and the Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova stretch. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) expects that the first phase will eventually serve around 4 lakh passengers daily, while the entire 33.5-km corridor is projected to accommodate up to 13 lakh riders each day. This new line aims to reduce road traffic by cutting down about 6.5 lakh vehicle trips and saving around 3.54 lakh liters of fuel.

During its first day of operations, the Aqua Line had 8,532 passengers by 6 pm and 15,713 by 9 pm. Metro services are scheduled to run from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm on weekdays and from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm on Sundays.
