Banks Closed for Up to 4 Days Straight This Week for Dussehra and Other Festivals

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that banks will be closed for a total of 15 days in October 2024. These closures include major national holidays, regional festivals, and election dates. Key holidays include Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, and various regional celebrations such as Navratri, Durga Puja, and other state-specific festivals.

The RBI sets the holiday schedule, which applies to both public and private banks. While bank branches will be closed, customers can still use online and digital banking services to manage their finances.

Here are the important holidays coming up this week:

  • October 10: Durga Puja/Dussehra (Maha Saptami) – Closed in Agartala, Guwahati, Kohima, Kolkata.
  • October 11: Dussehra (Mahashtami/Mahanavami)/Ayudha Pooja – Closed in Agartala, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata, Patna, Shillong, Ranchi.
  • October 12: Second Saturday/Dussehra – Closed in Agartala, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram.
  • October 14: Durga Puja – Closed in Gangtok.

  • October 17: Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti/Kati Bihu – Celebrated in Karnataka, Assam, and Himachal Pradesh.
  • October 26: Accession Day – Celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir.

In addition, banks will also close on the second and fourth Saturdays (October 12 and 26) and every Sunday throughout the month.

State-wise Bank Holidays

Different states will observe specific holidays in October. For example, Assam will celebrate Kati Bihu on October 17, while Jammu and Kashmir will observe Accession Day on October 26. Many states will also celebrate Durga Puja and Dussehra during the second week of October.
