Former Amazon India Head Manish Tiwary Nominated to Lead Nestle India Amid Tough Market Conditions

Nestle India’s parent company in Switzerland has chosen Manish Tiwary, former head of Amazon India, to lead the company’s India operations as it faces slow sales and growing competition in the country.

Nestle SA announced on Monday that Tiwary has been recommended to succeed Suresh Narayanan, who will retire as Managing Director of Nestle India on July 30 after nearly a decade with the company. Tiwary’s appointment will need approval from the Nestle India board before he officially takes over.

Tiwary led Amazon India for over four years before stepping down two months ago. He played a major role in Amazon’s rapid growth in India, helping it surpass local competitor Flipkart to become the leading name in Indian e-commerce. Before his eight years at Amazon, Tiwary worked for Unilever in both India and the Middle East.

Narayanan, who has also led Nestle’s operations in the Philippines, Egypt, and Singapore, will retire from his role as Chairman of Nestle India as well. The company has not yet disclosed who will succeed him as Chairman, saying that its board will consider a replacement when the parent company nominates someone.

Nestle India, known for Maggi noodles, recently missed its earnings targets and reported its slowest revenue growth in eight years for the quarter ending in June. While shares of Nestle India have fallen 3.2% this year, India’s Nifty 50 index has risen by 14%.
