REI Expo 2024: Biogas Sector Secures ₹1,850 Crore in Investment Commitments, Boosting India’s Net-Zero Goals

At the Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo 2024, held from October 3 to 5 in Greater Noida, investments of ₹1,850 crore were committed to the biogas sector, according to Gaurav Kedia, Chairman of the Indian Biogas Association (IBA).

Kedia shared that the IBA received investment commitments worth ₹1,850 crore through joint ventures (JVs), Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), and Letters of Intent (LoIs). These investments will be realized over the next two to three years and show strong international interest from countries like Germany, Sweden, and the UK.

The IBA signed MoUs for JVs worth over ₹900 crore and received around 50 LoIs for setting up compressed biogas plants in India.

The REI Expo featured 47 exhibitors from 10 biogas-producing countries and focused on promoting bioenergy, solar, wind, electric vehicles, and energy efficiency technologies. Supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), the expo also aimed to help India move towards net-zero emissions.

IBA President, Dr. A R Shukla, emphasized the positive impact of MNRE’s involvement in the Bio-Energy Pavilion, boosting confidence in the bioenergy sector. He also highlighted the need for more focus on bioenergy, which can help India achieve energy self-sufficiency and potentially replace fossil fuels with the right policy support.
