Zoom Launches Phone Service in Pune, Expanding to More Cities Soon

Zoom has officially launched its Phone service in India, starting in Pune, Maharashtra, and plans to expand to other regions like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Mumbai, and Delhi in the coming months.

This launch follows Zoom India receiving a Unified License from the Department of Telecommunications in April 2023, allowing it to offer local phone numbers. Zoom Phone is the first licensed cloud private branch exchange (PBX) service in India, designed to simplify communication for modern hybrid workforces across 50 countries.

According to Velchamy Sankarlingam, Zoom’s president of product and engineering, the cloud PBX service meets India’s regulatory requirements, showing the company’s dedication to providing a trusted service. He noted that globally, Zoom Phone has gained five customers with over 100,000 seats in the first quarter of FY25.

The Zoom Phone service integrates with Zoom Workplace, the company’s collaboration platform with AI features. It offers local telephony services as an add-on for existing paid customers, enabling seamless inbound and outbound calling through traditional telephone networks. This allows businesses to replace their current PBX solutions and streamline their communication needs into one platform.

Additionally, Zoom Phone connects with various business applications, contact center partners, and hardware providers, making it a comprehensive collaboration tool for multinational companies and businesses of all sizes in India.
