Taiwanese tech company Asus is planning to compete for Indian government contracts to supply laptops and PCs, going up against brands like HP, Lenovo, and Acer. Starting in 2025, Asus plans to join government tenders after securing local production for its business laptops.
Peter Chang, Asus’ General Manager for Asia Pacific, said the company is working with a third manufacturing partner to meet local production requirements.
Recently, Asus teamed up with Dixon Technologies to start making laptops in India by April 2025. They’ll also produce laptops for HP and Acer at Dixon’s Chennai plant. Asus already partners with Flextronics for some of its models.
Asus aims to meet 10% of India’s yearly laptop demand in the first year. India is Asus’ third-largest market, with 18% market share. They’re also looking to source more components locally to lower production costs.
The company has been focusing on bringing new products to India faster, launching some models simultaneously with global releases. Their ZenBook Duo, a dual-screen laptop, has been a big success in India, proving that high-end products are in demand.
