Chevron, a global energy leader, has announced an investment of Rs 8,300 crore to establish its Engineering and Innovation Centre of Excellence in Karnataka. The announcement was made during a meeting attended by M B Patil, Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development.
Minister Patil highlighted that Karnataka has been at the forefront of promoting economic growth and development. He emphasized that the partnership between the state government and Chevron for this Rs 8,300 crore investment demonstrates the significant advancements in engineering and innovation within the state. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering innovation, economic growth, and job creation.
Akshay Sahni, Chevron India’s Country Head, shared the company’s vision for the new centre, stating that it will provide an opportunity for India’s talented professionals to collaborate with Chevron’s global network to advance affordable, reliable clean energy solutions.
A statement from the Minister’s office mentioned that the new centre plans to employ 600 engineers by 2025, focusing on engineering and digital services to drive innovations in energy system technologies. The state has implemented progressive policies that have fostered a conducive environment for technological advancement.
Minister Patil noted that Bengaluru already hosts more than 500 Global Competence Centres (GCCs), accounting for over 30% of India’s GCCs, across sectors like finance, healthcare, retail, and manufacturing.
The Chevron Centre of Excellence (ENGINE) is expected to create significant job opportunities for local professionals, allowing them to tackle global energy challenges and contribute to the production of clean, low-carbon fuels in the future. Patil explained that the Chevron team in Bengaluru will manage complex global operations and energy projects in collaboration with international partners.
The establishment of the Chevron Centre of Excellence aligns with the Government of Karnataka’s priorities in technology, innovation, and skill development, reflecting Karnataka’s importance as a key destination for global companies.
