Tata Power to Invest ₹20,000 Crore in Renewable Energy and Expansion in FY25

Tata Power plans to invest ₹20,000 crore in the financial year 2025 to boost its renewable energy projects and improve its transmission and distribution networks, said Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the chairman.

Chandrasekaran, who also chairs Tata Sons, addressed shareholders at Tata Power’s 105th annual meeting held online on Monday.

He mentioned that this investment is in addition to the ₹12,000 crore spent in FY24. Most of the new funds will go towards expanding the company’s renewable energy projects, with the rest going to transmission and distribution.

The company will also consider small modular nuclear reactors once the government allows, and is looking to expand its distribution in other states.

Chandrasekaran emphasized that Tata Power is ready to lead India’s shift to green energy, focusing on providing continuous renewable energy, especially for commercial and industrial customers. The company is also pushing to grow its rooftop solar market share, supported by the PM Surya Ghar Yojana.

Tata Power aims to increase its customer base from 12.5 million to 50 million, though no timeline was provided. The company also plans to expand its clean energy capacity from 9 GW to 15 GW in five years, leveraging both current and new projects.
