This past week, state-run Cochin Shipyard, Bharat Dynamics, and Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) were among 24 stocks in the BSE 500 index that delivered double-digit returns. The BSE 500 index saw a rise of 664 points or 2%, following the S&P BSE Sensex’s gain of 1,500 points or 2%, hitting an all-time high of 75,636.
Defence PSUs Cochin Shipyard and Bharat Dynamics, along with RVNL, saw gains of 35%, 32%, and 27% respectively. Other top performers included Hindustan Zinc (HZL), PNC Infratech, and Finolex Cables, each delivering over 20% returns.
In the PSU space, Bharat Electronics (BEL), Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL), Union Bank of India, and Shipping Corporation of India saw returns ranging from 19.70% to 11.84%.
Two Adani stocks—Adani Power and Adani Enterprises—along with Macrotech Developers, led the large-cap performers with 11% returns over the four sessions this week.
In the broader market, where the Nifty MidCap 100 rose by 2.5%, stocks like Uno Minda, Vodafone Idea, Zee, and Solar Industries India yielded 14.04%, 12.77%, 12.37%, and 11.41% respectively. Small-cap stocks like Balkrishna Industries, CIE Automotive, Indiabulls Real Estate, Vinati Organics, Aegis Logistics, and Johnson Controls – Hitachi Air Conditioning India saw up to 18% returns.
There were 241 stocks with positive single-digit returns, including Sudarshan Chemical Industries (9.67%), Saregama India (9.48%), Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (9.46%), and Indian Railway Finance Corporation (9.03%).
Major large-cap stocks with single-digit returns included Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (7.26%), Life Insurance Corporation of India (6.15%), Cipla (6.14%), Larsen & Toubro (5.10%), HDFC Bank (3.53%), Bharti Airtel (3.31%), and Reliance Industries (3.10%). ICICI Bank, Yes Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank ended the week flat.
However, over 220 stocks ended in the red. The worst performers were Brightcom Group (-14.35%), TeamLease Services (-12.51%), and Delhivery (-10.81%).
Other underperformers included Jyothy Labs (-5.83%), Zomato (-6.08%), PB Fintech (Policybazaar, -3.74%), Godrej Properties (-4.09%), Shree Cement (-3.26%), Hindustan Copper (-3.31%), Interglobe Aviation (-2.64%), Varun Beverages (1.13%), and DLF (-0.94%).
In the BSE 500 index, 67 stocks hit their fresh 52-week highs, including Cochin Shipyard, Bharat Dynamics, RVNL, BEL, Mazagon Dock, Adani Power, Adani Enterprises, HUDCO, and Bharti Airtel.
